Donors can choose from a variety of contribution options, many with substantial tax benefits. Under current tax law, contributions are deductible as a charitable contribution for federal income tax purposes. MPJCDS is not qualified to give personal tax advice and we suggest that you consult with your legal or accounting advisor. PledgesPledges may be paid over three, four, or even five years. This often enables a donor to contribute a larger amount than would be possible if paid over a single year. Many donors consider pledging in honor of or in memory of loved ones. SecuritiesDonors realize substantial tax advantages by donating appreciated stocks. Capital gains tax on the amount of appreciation is generally avoided, and the donor receives a tax deduction for the stock's full market value. Due to the avoidance of capital gains taxes and the cash value of the tax deduction, a donor's after-tax cost may be as little as one-third the value of the donation. Gifts of PropertyThe gift of a home, building, or land may be advantageous to a donor. Just as with gifts of appreciated securities, the donor may avoid gains taxes and enjoy an immediate income tax deduction. Arrangements for continued occupancy by the donor for a specified period can be made. Matching GiftsMany firms have corporate giving programs which match their employee's donations. Donors are urged to explore this means of increasing their contribution. Joining the Volunteer LeadershipThe Mid-Peninsula Jewish Community Day School relies on volunteers to meet its development goals. If you are willing to contribute a limited amount of your time to support us in our effort, we would be most appreciative. Please telephone the school office. |
